Our Head of Mathematics, Mr Nick Lim, was invited to contribute three chapters to a senior mathematics textbook published by Jacaranda Press, which will be used by students across Queensland. His selection highlights the excellence of 69³ÉÈ˵¼º½â€™s Secondary school and Maths Department, showcasing the high-quality teaching and learning our students experience.
Congratulations Mr Lim, can you tell us more about the project?
As an author, I am responsible for developing the main content, supporting questions, and all online resources and supplementary materials for the topics within the chapters I am assigned. Additionally, I have been invited to contribute to another project for a Western Australian title.
What skills, knowledge and experience do you bring to the task?
I bring a combination of in-depth subject knowledge, practical teaching experience, and a passion for creating engaging learning materials. My classroom teaching, over the course of 18 years at 69³ÉÈ˵¼º½, has probably been the greatest contributor to my experience for this task, as it has allowed me to gain a deep understanding of student needs and the challenges they face in mastering complex mathematical concepts.
Additionally, the input of colleagues throughout my career has played a significant role in shaping my approach to teaching and professional development. Their support, ideas, and shared expertise have helped refine my methods and teaching philosophy. I cannot attribute this experience to myself alone, as it reflects the collaborative learning environment that I’ve had the privilege of being part of.
Furthermore, I am always seeking to improve my own professional practice, which means I approach this task with a mindset focused on the continuous evolution of teaching and learning. I’m excited to bring this knowledge and experience into the textbook development process to create a resource that will support both teachers and students alike.
How will this benefit students and the Maths Department?
Being involved in the textbook development is a unique opportunity to directly contribute to resources that will be used by students across the state. This project allowed for collaboration with industry experts and educators, ensuring the content is both relevant and up to date with the latest teaching practices. It is incredibly fulfilling to see that knowledge and experience gained over the years, along with the valuable insights contributed by colleagues, come together in a resource that will have a broad and lasting impact on students.
For the Maths Department at 69³ÉÈ˵¼º½, this involvement highlights the commitment to maintaining high educational standards and staying at the forefront of academic excellence. We foster a culture of continuous improvement, with staff dedicated to providing the best possible education. Beyond regular classroom teaching, our staff are actively engaged in curriculum and assessment development, professional development, and additional responsibilities that support students’ broader development. These efforts create a dynamic learning environment where both students and teachers are encouraged to grow and engage with the latest educational advancements.
