Academic Extension
and Enrichment

Primary

Our learning extension programs are for students with identified strengths and needs in the humanities (English, Geography and History) and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

Wordsmiths in Years 1 to 6 can enjoy weekly, small group, creative writing lessons in the Writers Circle. They are encouraged to 鈥減lay鈥 with words and many of their personal pieces of writing are entered in competitions.

Specialised weekly STEM Explorers programs enable Years 3-6 students to collaborate, design and investigate with fellow researchers, and enter their projects in STEM competitions.

Extension maths class in Years 3-6 engages students in higher order thinking activities, requiring them to work collaboratively to apply a number of strategies to solve real life problems that extend their understanding and application of mathematical concepts. They also enter a number of individual and team Mathematics competitions.

Students in Years 4-6 with identified strengths in the Humanities and STEM are invited to engage with like-minded peers through the ASPIRE (Academically Strong Pupils Inspired to Reach Excellence) program. The fast pace of the classes invigorates students as they complete their year level鈥檚 curriculum in a compacted manner, allowing for additional time to participate in extension activities, while learning more about themselves as gifted and high achieving students.
Academic Extension and Enrichment

Secondary School鈥擫earning Enrichment

We focus on providing challenging and enriching learning experiences for students who have a high cognitive ability.

Our goal is to offer a curriculum that suits their needs while encouraging interaction with peers of similar abilities.

Ultimately, we aim for students to see their academic talents as gifts from God, to be exercised and developed through learning, guiding them to become young men and women of integrity and influence.

In Years 7-10, students with high ability and potential are placed in an Honours class for Core Subjects. Teachers incorporate differentiated instruction within the Australian Curriculum units in all Secondary classes.

The Extension Program (XP) is designed for Gifted and Talented students in Years 7 to 10, offering an enriched, specialised curriculum that replaces one of their standard electives. In this program, students engage in a wide range of intellectually stimulating activities, including advanced problem-solving strategies, critical thinking, the integration of emerging technologies, and examining the ethical implications of these innovations. They also undertake personalised research projects, fostering both academic excellence and creativity. Additionally, students are encouraged to participate in prestigious competitions, nurturing individual growth and preparing them for future challenges.

In Years 11 and 12, high-achieving students can enrol in university courses for a semester and engage in university partnership programs and activities. For some, such as elite athletes, a modified timetable is arranged to accommodate their commitments.

The International Student Outreach Program (ISOP) provides exceptional opportunities for students to engage in global academic collaboration and present research at international conferences. These opportunities include:

  • Student Leaders Convention in Singapore
  • Humanities Research Symposium for Youth, hosted in Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, or Brisbane
